Buying a Used Golf Cart: Questions to Ask Before You Choose
A used golf cart can be a practical choice when its condition, equipment, and price match your plans. Start with the way you intend to use it, then compare the details of each vehicle.
Start with the cart’s identity and history
Record the make, model, year if verified, serial number, and dealer stock number. Ask what inspection or service records are available and whether any components have been replaced. A fresh-looking body or seat does not tell the whole story of the vehicle underneath.
Understand the battery and charger
For an electric cart, identify the battery type, installation date if documented, and compatible charger. Ask what battery-condition information is available. If the cart has been converted to lithium, ask about the installed system, supporting equipment, and documentation. Care and storage instructions should match that specific system.
Try the layout and controls
Check seating comfort, entry and exit, steering, braking, and the controls during an appropriate test drive. Look at the tires and visible condition. Measure your storage space and compare it with the cart’s dimensions. Ask the dealer to explain any concern rather than assuming it is cosmetic.
Compare the complete purchase
Request a written quote showing the cart, accessories, applicable taxes and fees, and delivery arrangements. Ask whether any warranty applies, who provides it, and where the written terms can be reviewed. A used cart does not automatically include the same coverage or promotion as a new one.
